New Year, Same Word

In this week’s message, Pastor Kit walked us through Mark chapter 4, reminding us that hearing God’s Word is never the goal—responding to it is.

Jesus teaches that God’s Word is powerful, but its impact depends on the condition of our hearts. Like seed scattered on different soils, the same truth can be ignored, choked out, shallowly received, or allowed to take deep root. Growth happens when we welcome God’s Word, guard it, and respond to it with obedience.

Jesus goes on to show that God’s Word is meant to shape how we live—not be hidden or ignored. The more we apply what we hear, the more God grows us. Even when that growth feels slow or unseen, we can trust the process. What seems small—like a mustard seed—can grow into something that provides life, shelter, and blessing far beyond what we expect.

The chapter ends with Jesus calming the storm, revealing who He truly is: Lord over creation, chaos, and fear. The question for us is the same as it was for the disciples—do we trust Him enough to live out what He’s taught us?

The goal of the gospel is not information, but transformation—and that begins when we truly hear and obey.
